Sexual Abuse Facts


Sexual abuse is a type of abuse that takes advantage of the child's vulnerability. Unlike other forms of child abuse, sexual abuse violates them in a way that deprives the child of their control over their own bodies and will have lasting affects on the victim for years after. 


No child can consent to any formal sexual activity. Though consent ages vary from state to state.

Sexual abuse can consist of. . .

Exposing oneself to a minor

Fondling

Intercourse

Masturbation is the presence of a minor

Forcing them to masturbate

Obscene interaction with a minor through call, text, FaceTime, and Skype

Producing, owning, or sharing child pornography

Oral sex

Sex trafficking

And any other type of sexual act that is harmful to the Childs mental state along with emotional and physical welfare.







There is a common misconception that sexual abusers have to be adult men. This is not true, both women and fellow minors can be abusers as well. Any type of person can be abusers when there is a power dynamic that challenges the Child's safety.





Sexual Abuse Statistics


-There are 42 million survivors of sexual abuse in the United States.

-20% of children being sexually abused are under the age of 8.

-38% of sexual abusers against boys are women.

-A typical pedophile will commit 117 sexual crimes in a lifetime.

-95% of sexual abuse if preventable through education.

-93% of sexual child abuse survivors knew the abuser.

-1 in 9 girls and 1 in 53 boys under the age of 18 become survivors of sexual abuse and assault.

-82% of survivors are under the age of 18.

- People of child sexual abuse are 4 times more likely of developing drug addiction and PTSD.

-Child sexual abuse survivors are 3 times more likely to have a major depressive episode as adults.

-Of all the survivors under the age of 18, 2 out of 3 are between the ages of 12 to 17
